Position Overview

As the Category Analyst, you will support Sales & Marketing, helping the company advance our business intelligence and analytical capability.  Key objectives include achievement of sales, profit and market share goals by applying 4P (Product, Price, Promotion & Placement) principles and best practices.  Targeting a highly motivated team player who responds thoughtfully and urgently to growth opportunities and competitive threats.  Deliverables will include routine monthly reporting and on demand project work.  Expected to participate and add value to internal strategy execution discussions and external customer sales meeting preparation.  The position is based at our HQ office location in Baton Rouge, LA.


Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities

  • Performs high level, in-depth business analyses using internal (SAP) and syndicated/custom data sources (IRI/Nielsen/Customer Loyalty Data); provides conclusions and recommendations.
  • Provides Marketing and Sales National Account team with channel, geo market and account specific information & insights support.
  • Performs routine and ad hoc analysis of baseline and promotional sales results of Community and competition.  Identifies product distribution and competitive pricing gaps. 
  • Evaluates and seeks to optimize frequency, type, deal depth, lift, profit and market share effect of promotional activations.  Determines and reports what is and isn’t working well, recommends course corrections, informs strategy development and revision.
  • Identifies opportunities to increase volumes and decrease trade spend to improve ROI of all activities.
  • Supports account line review presentation development with category & shopper behavior insights.  Identifies assortment opportunity gaps.  Provides product distribution rationale and planogram layout recommendations.
  • Builds trusting relationship with customers as coffee category expert through application of fact-based Category Management principles and analytical excellence.
  • May be requested to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements

  • Minimum BA/BS/BBA degree in Business Management, Marketing, or Finance; MBA a plus
  • Combined 2-4 years of experience as a Category Analyst for major CPG manufacturer and/or IRI/Nielsen serving FDMC retail channels
  • Heavy mining, reporting and providing actionable insights from syndicated and custom databases, including household panel
  • Knowledge of IRI Unify and shopper loyalty data platforms, including 84.51 Stratum    
  • Word, PowerPoint & Excel proficient, including pivot table and vertical look-up builds
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Results-oriented self-starter with strong business acumen and work ethic
  • Skilled at mining and integrating various data sources to evaluate the business and effectively communicate conclusions 
  • Superb organization, communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Must demonstrate proven ability to provide high quality analysis, insights and recommended actions resulting in sales and market share improvement

  • Office Environment: Most of the duties of this position will be perform inside an office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
  • Field Sales Environment - While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be moderately loud in warehouse areas.
