Summary

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate procurement of materials and products to support our strategic initiatives. The Purchasing Manager (PM) is an empowered team member who works with R&D, Planning and Sourcing partners to purchase the required items from the correct suppliers and have them in stock at the appropriate levels and at the necessary time.   

Essential Duties

  • The supervision and coordination of the Purchasing Department.
  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Evaluation, development and mentoring of Purchasing Department employees.
  • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Administers the departmental budget.
  • Negotiate with suppliers on delivery, cost and quality performance as needed.
  • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
  • Set procurement practices to reduce overall inventory, but also reduce or eliminate stock outs.
  • Drafts, explains, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
  • Ensure department adheres to established processes and policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a business related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience
  • Previous experience with MRP, Just in Time and Lean Manufacturing techniques a plus
  • Knowledge of purchasing strategies, vendor relations and supply chain practices.
  • Six Sigma and APICS certification desired
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working knowledge of procurement systems
  • Strong organization skills
  • Solid interpretation skills with experience in customer/supplier relations
  • Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal), decision making and employee relations skills
  • Able to handle multiple assignments under extreme time constraints and high stress conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
  • Self-starter:  bias for action, results oriented
  • Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office applications required
