Import & Export Compliance Specialist
As a member of our Global Trade Compliance Team, you will support the key risk areas of the US trade compliance program, including, but not limited to:
Providing effective oversight and audits of import operations.
Ensuring import and maquiladora trade activities are executed in compliance with all applicable international trade regulations.
Monitoring the effectiveness of our internal controls and conducting testing as required.
Monitors and manages the activities of the company’s customs brokers, provides input/ Key Performance Indicators for broker oversight.
Ensure timely customs entry and management of Importer Security Filings (ISF).
Provides analytical support related to CBP Requests for Information, Post-Summary Corrections, Protests and Prior Disclosures.
Provides support for the filing of USCBP ruling requests as needed.
Will lead tariff classification review of all Safariland current and new raw materials and finished goods to include both US and MX tariff numbers.
Will validate USMCA COO certificates from raw material vendors and will issue Safariland, LLC USMCA COO finished good certificates of origin based on validated USMCA MX COO certificates of origin.
Provides procedural guidance in resolving complex import related issues.
Provides cross departmental support as related to trade activities (purchasing, supply chain, sourcing, etc.).
Manages Duty Drawback program and other related duty recovery programs.
Manages and maintains reports and metrics pertaining to various elements of the import process.
Utilize critical thinking skills to understand root causes and on this basis, resolves problems and makes innovative contributions.
Reviews and assesses U.S. customs entries & declarations for accuracy and compliance with import regulations.
Establishes and implements corrective and preventative actions through continuous improvement initiatives.
Supports implementation of standard operating policies and procedures updates for trade compliance.
Provides support for other compliance related activities within the department in accordance with Safariland policies, ensuring consistency and compliance.
Continuously evaluates current processes and recommends relevant changes or improvements to increase compliance and efficiency.
4-6 years of experience in international trade/customs environment required.
Experience with Maquiladora operations.
Industry certifications a plus (CCS/CES).
Strong knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Customs regulations, and entry process.
Strong knowledge with FTA programs (NAFTA/USMCA).
Proficient with current Microsoft Office programs. Intermediate Excel proficiency preferred.
Detail oriented, with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work both independently and on teams.
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task varied projects in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across multi-functional teams.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic; accepts accountability and responsibility for actions.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency required.
